Nomination Process
Nomination of Academicians of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (UK Centre) is exclusively by invitation and follows a rigorous peer-review selection process conducted by each relevant Section. Academician status is conferred upon scholars, scientists, engineers, and humanities leaders who have demonstrated a sustained record of original contribution and achieved international recognition in science, engineering, or the humanities. Election proceeds through peer review and a plenary vote at the General Assembly, the Academy's supreme governing body, upon the recommendation of the Academy Council, its executive body. The nomination cycle operates annually. The 2026 cycle opened on 1 January 2026 and closed on 31 March 2026. Election outcomes will be announced in July–August 2026.
The Academy is organised into Sections (broad disciplinary domains) and Classes (specialised subdivisions within each Section). Nominations are submitted to a specific Section and reviewed by the relevant Class before proceeding to the Section Committee.
Nominations are accepted via two routes:
-
Standard Electronic Submission
Access the nomination page to review detailed guidelines and procedural instructions.
-
Presidium Nomination (the Academy's executive nomination route)
The Presidium Nomination route accommodates eminent scholars who may have been previously overlooked, or candidates whose profiles do not conform readily to standard criteria for election as Academician. Presidium nominees undergo review by Section Committees and the relevant disciplinary Classes for consultative advice. Final election of Presidium nominees rests with the Academy Council, upon receipt of recommendations from Class Chairs.
Election to Academician
Nominators and candidates must review these guidelines prior to submission.
THE NOMINATION PHASE
A.General Rules for Candidates
- Candidates require nomination by two current Academicians; only Academicians may submit nominations. Nominations initiated by non-Academicians, requests soliciting support, or unsolicited communications seeking nominators—including those involving improper solicitation—will not be considered. Academicians should disregard such approaches. Self-nomination is not permitted.
- Overarching criteria demand clear, evidenced international distinction. Nationality, citizenship, gender, geographic location, and disciplinary field do not influence evaluation. The primary criterion for Academician status is sustained academic excellence in the candidate's discipline. Scholars working at interdisciplinary boundaries or in non‑traditional fields are particularly encouraged. Evidence of attainment may include non‑traditional scholarly outputs indicative of outstanding achievement.
B.Age of Candidates
- No age restrictions apply; all candidates receive full consideration. Nominators must demonstrate that candidates remain actively engaged in scholarly research, teaching, or equivalent professional activity, or, alternatively, that their prior international distinction warrants special recognition.
- Nominators must provide the year the candidate commenced research activity (or date of retirement, where applicable), and include within the dossier references to publications from the preceding five years, and/or describe achievements beyond traditional academic publications supporting the candidacy.
C.Specific Instructions for Nominators (Only)
- Only current Academicians may nominate candidates for election as Academician, to any Section and in any field. All nominations require two Academicians of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. The two nominators must, between them, have personal and professional familiarity with the candidate's work. Academicians may nominate to any Class or Section, unrestricted by their own disciplinary affiliations.
- The lead nominator must obtain candidate approval prior to submission. Nominators must personally complete the "case for election" section—this constitutes the critical component of the nomination. Nominators bear responsibility for validating and substantiating all claims made on behalf of the candidate.
- Nominators may request candidates to complete sections pertaining to past achievements, academic positions, selected publications, and honours received. However, the form must be completed in full and submitted in the prescribed format. Supplementary materials (curriculum vitae, publication lists, etc.) are required.
- Both nominators must formally endorse the nomination. The completed dossier must be submitted via the designated procedures.
D.Guidance on Completion of the Nomination Form
-
Case for Election to the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (all categories)
This section is pivotal. Class Chairs and Section Committees will base their decisions predominantly on this account. It must articulate with clarity and detail the distinctions and scientific accomplishments underpinning the proposal. The candidate's personal contribution to original research is especially significant. Major contributions to broader Eurasian collaboration or science policy should also be explicitly stated.
-
Books, Publications, and Other Outputs
List no more than ten of the candidate's most significant contributions from the preceding five years. Clearly indicate authorship role (sole, principal, co‑author, or editor). Citation data and evidence of impact may be included where relevant. Evidence of influence on the broader scientific community or on public engagement arising from the candidate's work is welcome.
-
Honours and Major Awards
Include substantial national and international prizes or other recognitions—for example, medals acknowledging sustained academic distinction, or election to national academies. Research grants and project funding, in themselves, do not constitute sufficient recognition.
E.Submission of the Completed Nomination
The fully completed form, verified and endorsed by both nominators, must be submitted following the instructions provided within the form. For technical assistance, please contact the nominations team at IEAS UK Centre. Submitted forms may be re‑edited up to the official closing date; no revisions will be permitted thereafter.
